Do you know what these rings are?
Did you know that these rings have a lot to do with good functioning of your phaco handpiece.
There could be more reasons for a Phaco handpiece to stop working, but the single biggest reason is shorting of the internal circuitary inside the handpiece.
There is an internal water tight chamber which houses this circuitary and Piezo electric crystals. There are a series of “O”Rings which makes this chamber water tight.
Over the years of repeated autoclave cycles these rings loses the tone and allows the irrigating solution to leak inside. Also keep a watch on your Autoclave time and temperature. If your autoclave settings are beyond manufacturers recommendation, there is a possibility of O-Ring damage.
The leaked saline inside this chamber forms a steam during autoclave cycle and condenses on these piezo electric crystals, wiring and circuit boards resulting in short circuiting.
This immediately affects the tuning thus an error message.
